Canada’s Gordon Burns Books Tee Time for 2024 Rogers Charity Classic

Hank Kim and Jason Norris share low qualifying honours

CALGARY—Gordon Burns will become the fifth Canadian to have a tee time at the 2024 Rogers Charity Classic after he secured the third and final qualifying spot on Tuesday.

The 50-year-old Toronto teaching professional fired a bogey-free round of 66 (-6) to finish in third place in Tuesday’s qualifier at Elbow Springs Golf and Country Club to round out the 78-man field that will battle for the $2.4 million purse, August 16-18.

Burns will sport the red maple leaf on his golf bag this week along with Mike Weir, Stephen Ames, Steve Blake and Alan McLean. The only other time five Canadians teed it up in the same year at the Rogers Charity Classic was in 2022.

Hyeong Geon (Hank) Kim and Jason Norris will also have their names added onto a stall in the players’ locker room at Canyon Meadows Golf Country Club. The American duo matched low rounds of the day with 64s. Kim recorded six birdies and one eagle, while Norris rattled off eight birdies.

“It feels amazing. That’s the whole reason we do what we do, you grind it out, and it’s so hard because everybody here on the Monday is so good,” said Kim, who was low qualifier for the second-straight year. “They are all veterans on Tour, and I watched of these guys on TV growing up, so to come out here and put up a good number and get in is very satisfying.”

Elbow Springs was in pristine condition for the final qualifying opportunity for Canada’s lone PGA TOUR Champions event with 24 players battling for three spots.

Complete qualifying results can be found here.
